CJC Professor Receives $500,000 Gift from Microsoft

With funds from the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative, CJC Professor, Don Stemen, will launch the maryland Prosecutorial Performance Indicators Project -- and effort to develop a statewide model for promoting more effective, just, and transparent prosecutorial decision making in Maryland. The project is a partnership between prosecutors and academics at Loyola University Chicago, Florida International University, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Bowie State University, and the University of Maryland. The goal is to bring together prosecutors and academics to use prosecution data more effectively – to be smart on crime, think about new ways to maximize public safety, enhance fairness, and create a new system of accountability to the public. The project will help offices to better understand the data available to prosecutors in Maryland and to use that data to examine decision making and case outcomes, build a template for data dashboards, and engage the community in new ways.
