LUMA Welcomes Art Historian James Yood

School of the Art Institute of Chicago Professor to Discuss Exhibit by DoDo Jin Ming

What: 
The Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA) presents art historian James Yood in conjunction with the black and white photography exhibit, Land and Sea: DoDo Jin Ming. An adjunct full professor in the Department of Art History, Theory and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Yood will discuss Land and Sea and place the artist in the context of the sublime landscape in his lecture,The Sublime in Nature: DoDo Jin Ming in Context.

Why:
In Land and Sea, DoDo Jin Ming focuses on the drama of the natural world and the awesome power of nature in both her seascapes series, Free Element, and her landscape series, Behind My Eyes. In his lecture, James Yood will explore Ming's photography as a contemporary counterpart to the older tradition of painting in the "sublime" movement popularized in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
