Just Employment Task Force

Background and Task Force Charge
As a Jesuit, Catholic institution, Loyola’s mission and current strategic plan require the campus community to seek actionable ways to live out the call to build a more just, humane, and sustainable world. This task force will be doing exactly that, as it has been asked to help identify opportunities for Loyola to demonstrate and deepen its commitment to a more fair, competitive, and socially just workplace.

At Loyola, we are:

  • Committed to providing an affordable, high-quality, transformative education while remaining cognizant of the economic sacrifices that our students and families make to afford the Loyola experience.
  • Committed to fair and competitive total compensation for those who work directly, and indirectly, for Loyola to provide our transformative education.
  • Respectful of the employment relationship of those who work directly for other organizations and indirectly for the University.
  • Aware and respectful of the fact that some who work directly, or indirectly, for Loyola are represented by a union, which is their recognized and exclusive representative for bargaining terms and conditions of employment.

At the end of the spring semester (2017), the group will produce a report and set of recommendations for University leadership to consider.

Questions to Consider

  • What are the most pressing social justice challenges in Loyola’s workplace that we might address over the next year(s)?
  • What is Loyola currently doing that we should consider expanding or enhancing?
  • What programs, policies, or procedures at Loyola might be updated to address a specific challenge and expand on our commitment to a more socially just workplace?
  • How can we balance the tension between our commitment to student access and affordability with more fair and competitive compensation?
  • What services, protocols, or processes should be available to those who work, both directly or indirectly, on Loyola’s campuses?
  • What are the obstacles or challenges to becoming a more socially just workplace? How might we address them?
