    Ph.D., 2009, M.A., 1998 and B.A. 1998 in Theology from Loyola University Chicago

Sever earned his BA, MA, and PhD degrees in Theology from Loyola University Chicago. A member of the Society for Christian Ethics and the American Academy of Religion, he teaches a course titled Loyola’s Mission: Ignatian Traditions (THEO 190) at SCPS.

How has your experience at SCPS impacted you as an instructor and professional?

SCPS takes the idea of a professional learning community seriously. I appreciate the biannual meetings. It is a chance to meet one another and to critically reflect upon the art of teaching.

What impact has being an instructor at SCPS had on your community?

The teacher is also a student. I have been able to take what I have learned about pedagogy and apply it in my instruction across the classes I teach.

What are some highlights of SCPS that you will remember going forward?

SCPS is an excellent example of the Ignatian tradition of education and the value Magis (more). There is a saying that "It's not about the presents; It's about your presence." The SCPS community is one of gifted and talented individuals who bring out the best in one another as student, teacher, staff and administration and help each other to become more.

What do you want those outside of SCPS to know about SCPS students?

We live in a world that is fractured by apathy, decay, distrust, confusion and anger. I enjoy engaging with my students and I see in them the joy and hope of a different tomorrow.
