Gender Neutral Bathrooms/ Personal Wellness Facilities

Loyola is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all Ramblers. Over the past four years, Loyola has expanded its inventory of gender neutral and personal wellness facilities, which can be found by using the maps and listings below. Gender neutral facilities are single occupant restrooms and are equipped with complimentary menstrual products. Personal wellness rooms are available for individual medical needs or for lactation purposes, and are equipped with a refrigerator and sharps container, and a sink where feasible.

If you find that any of these spaces are in need of service, please submit a Facilities work order.

As a university design standard, all new construction and major renovation projects will include the addition of new gender-neutral restrooms and personal wellness rooms.

Please click on the link below for a detailed inventory of gender neutral and personal wellness facilities for each of our Chicagoland campuses.

Facilities Management Campus Posting Guidelines

Facilities Management’s campus posting guidelines aim to establish effective use of posting space within University buildings and grounds. Due to life safety, sustainability, and facility upkeep, posting is only allowed on designated walls and bulletin boards. Postings on campus grounds are allowed only on bulletin boards or other locations designated for that purpose.

To minimize the risk of facility damage, fire, and the impeding of quick and safe egress from buildings in an emergency, posting is not allowed in the following locations:

  • In stair enclosures or on stair railings;
  • On doors or windows, including translucent glass block windows;
  • On lights or heaters;
  • In or on elevators;
  • On floors;
  • On furniture;
  • Attached to or covering fire extinguishers, hose cabinets, exit markers, or any other safety equipment;
  • In any other location where they might constitute a safety hazard.

Please refrain from posting on finished surfaces such as wood veneer, wallpaper, and painted walls. Failure to abide by the guidelines will result in removal of signage and fees to offset damages sustained by facilities.

If a space can benefit from a bulletin board, please  under “common area furniture” and request a bulletin board. A facilities staff member will determine if additional posting space is appropriate or will suggest alternative location.

Menstrual Equity Project

Students for Reproductive Justice, a group of Loyola University Chicago students, initiated the Menstrual Equity Project. Starting in 2016, they advocated for free menstrual products throughout Loyola bathrooms, stocking bathrooms themselves. They then began to work with Facilities, and Facilities continues their mission, which is as they say:

”These goods are not only cost prohibitive, but we would like to shift the general perception towards the idea that they are just as necessary as toilet paper, which an institution like a university readily provides free of charge. Additionally, we want these products to be readily available to all individuals that menstruate.”

Thanks to their activism, Loyola is committed to providing free menstrual products in both the men’s and women’s restrooms on the ground floor of all buildings, as well as in all gender neutral non residence hall facilities.

Triple Clear Water Filters

At Loyola University Chicago campuses, the drinking water sourced from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago consistently meets or exceeds state, federal, and industry standards for quality. Loyola University Chicago is enhancing water quality across its campuses with Triple Clear® filters. Throughout ’23 winter break, the installation of water filters began, with completion anticipated by the end of ’24 summer break. Triple Clear® water filters will be integrated into bottle fill water stations across all campuses.

As part of the filter program, stickers with a QR code have been placed over a series of three lights on the bottle fill water stations. These lights, which are green, yellow, and red, are not indicators of water quality but rather timers (based on gallons) signaling when the filter should be changed according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Additionally, a single green "ticker light" tracks the number of 20-ounce bottles saved through the use of bottle fill stations. When there are no filters installed, the three lights on the units will not function. Upon the installation of Triple Clear® filters, these lights will remain non-functional, as the properties of the filter will dictate when a replacement is needed.

Triple Clear® water filters utilize advanced "force field" technology, effectively removing up to 99.9999% of viruses, bacteria, and parasites. This innovative technology acts like a magnet, attracting and trapping naturally occurring negatively charged contaminants, thereby providing safe, clean drinking water with improved taste, odor, and clarity.

The combination of Chicagoland drinking water and Triple Clear® water filters ensures a delightful drinking experience. It serves as the ideal zero-calorie beverage for quenching thirst and rehydrating the body.

Protecting Buildings and Facilities from Sub-Zero Temperatures

As winter approaches, it's important to be aware of the challenges that sub-zero temperatures can pose to our campus buildings and facilities. Winter is beautiful, but it brings its own set of challenges, especially when the temperatures drop below freezing. Our campus buildings and Facilities department work hard to keep us warm and comfortable, but extreme cold can take a toll.

Sub-zero temperatures can lead to frozen pipes, burst water lines, and heating system failures. That's why it's crucial for all of us to play a role in protecting our university infrastructure.

Here are a few simple tips to help keep our campus in top shape during the winter months:

Report Issues Promptly:

If you notice any leaks, drafts, or heating problems in your dorm or any other building, report it to Facilities immediately. Submit a Work Request

Close Windows and Doors:

Make sure windows and doors are closed tightly to prevent cold air from seeping in.

By taking these simple steps, we can ensure that our campus remains a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Let's all do our part to make this winter a great one at Loyola University Chicago!

Office Side Lite and Window Coverings

Side lites and windows within office doors and wall assemblies are an important and intentional component of office construction. This visibility allows for first responders to an emergency to have a view into an office to quickly assess if an occupant needs assistance.  It is also necessary for the safety of occupants in private offices to always maintain visibility into their offices when guests are present.  As such, it is important to keep these windows free of obstruction.  Any permanent or temporary fixtures that block windows or side lites will be removed by Facilities, and requests to block windows will be denied.

We understand that nursing mothers require privacy and will work to accommodate such requests on a temporary basis.  Please refer to the list and map of lactation and personal wellness rooms that are available for nursing mothers across all three of our campuses.  If further accommodations are needed, please submit a work ticket and your request will be reviewed.
