Sakai Pathways
Sakai Pathways provide flexible opportunities for learning throughout the year. An ongoing schedule of live, interactive sessions is available. You can complete a self-paced Pathway on your own or attend a live accelerated Pathway in a single 3-hour session. Both options lead to a digital badge issued through Credly, providing many ways to share your badge to popular destinations such as X, LinkedIn, and Facebook. This interactive professional development series provides you with tips and effective practices for facilitating communication in online and technology-enhanced courses. Explore the Announcements, Calendar, Email, Chat, Messages, Discussions, and Conversations tools to help devise a comprehensive student communication strategy.
NEW Self-Paced Pathway Coming February 2025 | Topics
Announcements and Calendar: The Announcements tool enables instructors to communicate with small groups or their entire class. Additionally, this session will address how to effectively use the Calendar tool to help organize course content and activities.
Email, Chat, and Messages: The Email, Chat, and Messages tools facilitate one-to-one and one-to-many communications via Sakai. Gain insights into the logistics and advantages of each tool, as well as hands-on practice using these tools to communicate with other session participants.
Discussions: The Discussions tool allows instructors to facilitate asynchronous dialogue in their course. Learn how to create forums and topics, customize settings, grade student contributions, and gain strategies to promote collaborative learning.
Conversations: The Conversations tool assists instructors with facilitating short-answer questions or longer discussions, along with tagging key posts. Learn how to create a new topic, post a question, answer questions, hide/delete/lock posts, bookmark topics, and more.

This interactive professional development series provides you with workflows, tips, and effective practices for assessment that will support every stage of learning. We will explore Assignments, Tests & Quizzes, Rubrics, and Gradebook to help create and develop substantive assessments.

Assignments: The Assignments tool allows you to create, distribute, collect, and grade online assignments. Learn how to add, edit, and grade an assignment, as well as how to enable student peer review and group submissions.
Tests & Quizzes: The Tests & Quizzes tool allows you to create online assessments, including exams, quizzes, and surveys. Learn how to decide between assessment types, how to create different types of questions, and how to customize your assessment settings to support learner needs.
Rubrics: The Rubrics tool allows you to compose and apply criteria for grading in rubrics associated with different learning activities in Sakai, as well as share feedback with students. In addition, find out how to collaborate and share rubrics with other instructors in Sakai.
Gradebook: The Gradebook tool allows you to set up grading for a course securely shared with your students. Learn how to set up a Gradebook to reflect your course grading schema and values, calculate final grades, and how to enter grades and feedback for students to view. In addition, see how to associate different Sakai learning activities with the Gradebook.

Sakai Integrated Tools
This interactive professional development series provides you with tips and effective practices for using external tools integrated with Sakai. We will explore Zoom, Panopto, VoiceThread, and some lesser-known tools to supplement course content and activities, as well as enhance student engagement. Please note, this is a single 3-hour session with a 15-minute break at the halfway mark. At the conclusion, you will have met all the requirements to earn a Sakai Integrated Tools digital badge. This is the quickest way to build your credentials library!

Zoom Pro is a web conferencing tool that is used to host online synchronous class sessions, small group meetings, and instructor office hours. Learn how to add Zoom Pro to a Sakai course site, schedule sessions, set security options, use in-meeting tools, and share recordings.
Panopto is a lecture capture and video storage tool that is used to record class sessions, pre-record content, assign video projects, and much more. Discover how to add Panopto to a Sakai course site, record live classes and lectures, edit and caption recordings, assign and evaluate student work, and share recordings.
VoiceThread is a collaborative multimedia tool that is used for asynchronous peer interaction. This includes narrated slide lectures and student presentations, as well as rich multimedia discussions. Walk through adding VoiceThread to a Sakai course site, using the assignment builder, grading assessments, and sharing multimedia threads.
Plug and Play tools such as Labster and Infobase Learning Cloud provide extensive libraries of topic-based learning modules for use in courses, as supplemental lessons, or for your own professional development. Practice searching plug and play catalogs by keywords or phrases, add the tool to a Sakai course site, and manage assessment settings.
