About Us
Mission Statement
New Student Programs (NSP) in Student Academic Services (SAS) provides new students and their families the information, resources, and support that they need – when they need it – to make a successful transition to academic and student life at Loyola. NSP aims to create a seamless and integrated first-year experience that serves all students, but also tailors the experience to meet individual student and family needs. As part of this effort, NSP consists of two teams, one focused on the first-year experience broadly, and the other focused on providing wraparound support services for special populations. Please consider NSP your “one stop shop” for anything relating to the new student experience at Loyola!
Statement on Solidarity & Action
New Student Programs is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students and their families. We uphold and practice our Jesuit values of being people for and with others, as well as honoring the dignity of everyone we meet. To do this, we must acknowledge that many Ramblers, particularly students of color, are disproportionately impacted by racist systems, policies, actions, and words. Thus, we offer a statement of solidarity in support of the President's message of support, “From Grief to Action.” We also stand in solidarity with our colleagues in the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) as they encourage all Ramblers to “learn about yourself and others, deepen acts of justice, and to keep the faith in a way that fosters critical hope and action.” Guided by our Jesuit values of social justice, New Student Programs will continually strive to create a more positive, accessible, equitable, and inclusive campus community that promotes justice, while actively working to deconstruct systems of oppression and advocate for anti-racism. To that end, the New Student Programs team will commit to the following actions:
- Further integrate access, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice frameworks into UNIV 101/201 student leader and instructor training and development;
- Continue to create affinity spaces for students across orientation, UNIV 101/201, and the Loyola first-year experience, while honoring the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students;
- Establish a standing first-year experience advisory board of faculty, staff, and students to address the needs of first-year students, and make recommendations on making the first-year experience at Loyola more inclusive;
- Partner with, and actively promote, the work of CDI and Special Populations teams and other departments across campus;
- Continue to equitably hire, and promote, undergraduate and graduate student workers that represent the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and social identities of the Loyola student body;
- Expand the Rambler Read program to all Loyola faculty, staff, and students to engage in substantive, community-wide conversations on social justice issues.
