What is on the Assessment
Foreign Language Placement Assessment
Because it is a Computer Adaptive Test, the content will depend upon your answers to previous questions. In general, you might see synonym, antonym, fill in the blank, conversational response and reading comprehension questions.
Using the WebCAPE Foreign Language Placement Assessment Site:
Step 1: After logging in using the ramblers63 password, you will then be taking to a page where you can choose whether to take the French, Spanish, or German placement assessment. After you select the language click "Begin."
Step 2: You will be taken to the page to input your name, ID number, and email as well as to answer some preliminary questions on your previous experience with Spanish, French or German. Please fill in the information with your Loyola email and Loyola student ID number if known. They should be sent to you in your admissions materials.
Your Loyola ID number will be in the following format (eg. 00001122334) and your email should be your first initial of your first name, entire last name, and possibly a number if that address is already taken (eg. flastname3@luc.edu). After the information is filled out, click “Continue.”
Step 3: You will be taken to a page with a practice question which will show you how the test will work. For more specifics about what types of questions will be on the test, see the “What is on the assessment” section above.
After you click “Submit” your actual test will begin.
Step 4: After you finish your assessment, your score and placement will appear on an information page. If you can, print this score page out for your records. Your score will also be sent to Loyola so it can be accessed by your academic advisor.
When you are done reviewing your results, click "Finished" at the bottom of the results page. You will be taken back to the page where you can choose which language assessment you would like to take.
If you have problems or questions, please e-mail the Placement Assessment Team at the Hub at placementtest@luc.edu, and we will respond to you within one to two business days during regular business hours.
We look forward to seeing you at New Student Orientation!
