This lecture will present an intuitive (and only slightly mathematical) introduction to Artificial Neural Networks, intended for epidemiologists and health science researchers.

Robert Davis, MD, MPH is Governor’s Chair and Director of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center for Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Davis has over 25 years experience conducting epidemiologic with a focus on perinatal epidemiology and vaccine and drug safety, and currently has a large study underway in Ghana looking at genetic risks for preeclampsia.  His center has focused on applications of artificial intelligence in medicine, and includes work on the early identification of Parkinson’s disease, early diagnosis of organ failure in sickle cell disease, and prediction of cardiomyopathy among childhood cancer survivors.
