Mission in Action

My personal and professional mission is to promote individual and community health and wellness in marginalized communities by integrating culturally relevant holistic treatments with modern treatment modalities that target trauma. To engage, heal, train, and provide education to students, community members, and organization leaders in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors.

About

Dr. Francisco J. Lozornio has been a social work practitioner and educator in community mental health and wellness for over 21 years. Before moving to Chicago in 2010, he was the director of a behavioral health program in the Los Angeles area. Francisco’s professional social work experience ranges from providing mental health services to youth, families, and adults to working with multidisciplinary teams partnering with street organizations, the justice system, community schools, and non-profit organizations. Francisco has been active in the decarceration movement for over 14 years and co-led the School-to-Prison Pipeline Reversal Project in the Los Angeles area. Francisco has also assisted with the development of programs that target survivors of violence in the Los Angeles and Chicago communities. His doctoral research focused on integrating holistic models that improve mental health and wellness service delivery to individuals coming home from prison and survivors of emotional trauma, to decrease community-trauma and reduce recidivism. Education: Francisco earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in sociology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California (USC), and a Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) degree also from USC.
