What is your favorite thing about working at Loyola?
I enjoy that there is a high level of collaboration with students and colleagues across the University. Working with so many others brings inspiration and establishes the awareness that it takes time and a community to make change.
What is your most memorable achievement as a Loyola employee?
There are many achievements that I appreciate. Some have been the observations of students expressing hope after their “ah ha” moment. Looking back, a highlight was the UnCap Campaign. UnCap was a two-year student campaign led by the Student Environmental Alliance in partnership with the Student Government to ban the sale of bottled water at Loyola due to the injustice of water privatization. As an advisor to the Student Environmental Alliance, I had the opportunity to be available and gave guidance when asked. To witness the students take on the challenges, be part of critical discussions, conduct educational activities, and have a successful outcome – indeed a very memorable experience.
What does Loyola's mission mean to you?
I identify with the mission through the commitment to educate and to provide the space for people to gain an understanding of the interconnectedness of everything, thus leading to the acknowledgement that our actions can promote positive changes.
What motivates you to succeed each and every day?
I am motivated by my work, helpful colleagues, the students, and that I have the ability to take part in lively informative discussions. I also have the convenience to step outside and be on the shores of the beautiful Lake Michigan.
