Campus Activities Network

Here at Loyola University Chicago (LUC), Campus Activities Network (CAN) is a team of student workers that provide resources and support for you and your organization to thrive. 

Under the supervision of the Center for Student Engagement (CSE), CAN review activity requests, offer required workshops and additional trainings on organization management, support with programming that aim to tell the RSO stories, like the Fall Student Organization Fair and the Student Organization Awards Ceremony, and act as the communication bridge between the RSO community and CSE.

We are the primary resource to answer questions and concerns related to student organizations, create a network of RSOs, and provide training and professional development opportunities for RSO student leaders.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Campus Activities Network (CAN) of Loyola University Chicago is to advocate, represent, and support the universities Registered Student Organizations. The Campus Activities Network will serve the collective interest of the Registered Student Organization community at Loyola University Chicago. CAN is the primary resource to answer any of your questions/concerns and provide trainings on organizational management. 

CAN Workshop (Requirement and Schedule)

The workshops offer opportunities for students to learn more about leadership development and organizational management. Each semester will have three (3) required workshops and two (2) optional workshops. All RSOs are required to have one representative from the required e-board positions (president, treasurer, and CAN representative) to attend all the required workshops, and at least one (1) of the two (2) optional workshops per semester.  

  • If none of the required positions can attend, you may assign a proxy among the rest of the e-board. This does not require an advanced notification to CAN.  
  • If you are unable to assign anyone from the e-board, you are required to notify CAN via email at least three (3) days prior to the workshop. We will share follow-up actions through email.   
  • Please remember to arrive on time and stay for the duration of the workshop. We do check in and check out to track attendance. Email us if you estimate you will be late. 

If you are unable to attend and did not notify us at least three (3) days in advance, to following actions will apply: 

  • First missed workshop: Inability to request SPOT funding and Rolling Fund.
  • Second missed workshop: Inability to submit purchase request and event requests.
  • Third missed workshop: Removal of the RSO recognition.  

Please note the above accountability actions are implemented when students are absent from the workshop and have not communicated with us at least three (3) days prior to the workshop. Students can recover from the actions by following the instructions outlined on our outreach email, but the documentation will be valid for the academic year. Additional sanctions could apply at the discretion of the Center for Student Engagement and the Division of Student Development.

Campus Activities Network consists of five (5) undergraduate student workers. View below for more information about roles and responsibilities. 

Position Title Position Description
President In addition to reviewing Activity Requests from the Registered Student Organizations (RSO) community, the President support the RSO Graduate Intern on overseeing the daily operations of CAN, including the overall ARF review progress. This position work closely with the RSO Graduate Intern to delegate the necessary tasks and deadlines for each executive board member, and help members complete their tasks efficiently. The President also often act as the primary representative of CAN in relation to other organizations and campus partners. Alongside the Outreach Chair, this position will host office hours for in-person or online meetings with our RSO community.
Programming Chair In addition to reviewing Activity Requests from the RSO community, the Programming Chair oversee the logistical planning and execution of required workshops and additional networking events for our RSO community. The required workshops are created to support our student organizations to thrive as guided by our Jesuit values, and the networking events are designed to help create a sense of community among student organization leaders.
Marketing Chair In addition to reviewing Activity Requests from the RSO community, the Marketing Chair generate online strategies and marketing initiatives for CAN sponsored activities, guides, and updates. The Marketing Chair maintain CAN's Instagram account to increase online engagement with the RSO community as well.
Communication Chair In addition to reviewing Activity Requests from the RSO community, the Communication Chair oversee communications towards the RSO community, including the mass email for policy updates, deadline reminders, follow-up actions, and email inquiries. This position also oversee the internal communication within CAN, including the documentation and distribution of CAN e-board meeting minutes with other colleagues at CAN.
Outreach Chair In addition to reviewing Activity Requests from the RSO community, the Outreach Chair work closely with the Communication Chair to manage CAN's email inbox and assist with student organization related inquiry. Alongside President, this position will host office hours for in-person or online meetings with our RSO community. This position also create and maintain community engagement within RSOs through newsletter.
