Loyola Honored as a Climate Action Hero
Loyola University Chicago received a Climate Action Hero Award for education from the Climate Action Museum, an institution committed to raising awareness about climate change and promoting environmental stewardship. Nancy Tuchman, PhD, founding dean of the School of Environmental Sustainability, accepted the award on behalf of the university at a celebration on April 20.

The museum launched the Climate Hero Awards to recognize and amplify the contributions of individuals and organizations driving advances in addressing climate change and championing environmental stewardship.
“In a world where every action counts, acknowledging our climate heroes is not just a gesture, but a vital step towards inspiring others and catalyzing meaningful change,” said Doug Farr, founder of the Climate Action Museum.
Tom Skilling, former meteorologist for Chicago’s WGN-TV, was the special guest at the awards event. He received a lifetime achievement award for his role in educating the public about the science of climate change.
Additional awardees included Gina Ramirez for environmental advocacy, the nonprofit Elevate for decarbonizing diverse communities, and the Oak Park Climate Action Network and Village of Oak Park for collaboration between citizen advocates and local government.
The Climate Action Museum opened in June 2023 in downtown Chicago. Its mission is “to activate a tipping point on climate mitigation in the Chicago region through education, stimulating critical thought, and inspiring and facilitating direct action.”
The museum aims to make the Climate Action Hero Annual an annual event recognizing leaders in environmental action.
