Ch 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill®
The Post 9/11 GI Bill® is available to veterans who have served between 3 and 36 months of active duty service after September 10, 2001. This benefit provides up to 36 months of eligibility and expires 15 years after your release from active duty (if you separated from the military before August 16, 2017 once the Forever GI Bill was enacted).
The VA pays tuition and fees directly to the school. In many cases, the cost of attending Loyola University Chicago exceeds the VA's private school annual maximum, additional funds are available through the Yellow Ribbon program for veterans that have are 100% eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill program. These additional funds are available to veterans without an additional charge to your GI Bill entitlement.
Loyola University Chicago's Annual Yellow Ribbon Maximums are:
As of August 1, 2023 Loyola increased Yellow Ribbon funding to cover all mandatory tuition and fees for all programs, with the exception of the Medical School. The current Yellow Ribbon maximum for the medical school is $3,000 and is limited to 5 students. Yellow Ribbon slots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Existing Yellow Ribbon medical students will maintain their slot until completion of their medical school training or as long as they remain eligible for the Yellow Ribbon program.
In addition to the tuition benefit, the Post 9/11 GI Bill also offers a monthly housing allowance and annual book stipend. The monthly housing allowance is equivalent to the BAH rate for E-5 with dependents for the Loyola’s Lakeshore Campus zip code. Active Duty personal may be able to transfer this benefit to their dependents. Active Duty personnel using this benefit are also not eligible for the housing stipend.
