Alcohol and Other Drugs

Loyola Chicago has a variety of online and in person resources for students who need alcohol or cannabis information or support.

At Loyola, we recognize that as a student you have choices about drinking and other substance use: whether or not to use, how much to use, and where, when, and with whom to use substances. You are a young adult with the freedom and responsibility to make your own decisions. We are here to help you navigate the challenging course through college and to find ways to balance what matter most to you: meeting new people, having fun, doing well in school, being healthy and in control, shaping your character, achieving your goals.

While most students at Loyola use alcohol and cannabis in moderation or not at all, a significant minority of students drink or smoke in ways that put them, and others, at greater risk for alcohol-related harms–negative consequences that can quickly throw what matters out of balance. These include injury, fights, sexual assault, property damage, vandalism, legal trouble, unplanned and unprotected sex, poor academic performance, interrupted studies, etc.

Loyola's Safety Net website is a good source of information on LUC alcohol and other drug policies, resources of students concerned about their use, and responsible drinking tips. Please see the Safety Net coalition webpage to learn more about alcohol and other drug use and prevention at LUC. This website is Loyola's alcohol and drug information hub, it contains policies, education options, and health information for students and parents.

If you would like to be connected to additional resources or need any assistance related to substance use, please reach out to our Alcohol and Other Drug Educator Callie Powers at cpowers1@luc.edu
