George A. Trone

George A. Trone is Chief of Staff, Office of the President at Loyola University Chicago. In this role, he serves as senior advisor to the President, Board Chair, and senior leadership of the University; manages the Office of the President; leads University-wide initiatives, manages strategic relationships, and directs communication efforts. From 2010 to 2021, George worked at the University of Chicago as Senior Associate Secretary of the University in the Office of the President and Chief of Staff in the Office of the Dean of the Biological Sciences Division. From 2000 to 2010, George served as Assistant to the President, Program Officer, and Grants Database Manager at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in Flint, Michigan. Before joining the Foundation, George managed the ITS Education Program at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. From 1994 to 1999, he taught Italian language and literature at Yale and Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut.
George has an AB with Distinction in Italian Studies (Phi Beta Kappa) from Stanford University and an MA, MPhil and PhD in Italian Language and Literature from Yale where he was awarded the Thomas G. Bergin Fellowship and Paul C. Gignilliat Dissertation Fellowship. In 1996, he was awarded the Charles Hall Grandgent Prize by the Dante Society of America for the best graduate student article. From 1999 to 2010, he served as managing editor of The Yale Journal for Humanities in Medicine. In 2002-2003, he served as an advisor on the E-Language Learning System project for the U. S. Department of Education and the Chinese Ministry of Education.
