Philip Hale

Vice President for Civic Engagement & Government Affairs

Philip HalePhil Hale has managed the University’s federal, state, and local government relations for 24 years. His work encompasses advocacy for federal and state financial aid, support for Loyola’s undocumented students, as well as any substantive legislation that might impact Loyola or Loyola students.

Phil also works very closely with Loyola students and alumni, especially those interested in being persons for others through the public sector. He is the founder and advisor of Inside Government, a non-partisan student organization that encourages students to consider careers in public service. In 2022, working with Loyola’s Alumni Relations department, he also created a new Public Service Affinity Group for Loyola alumni and students.

Immediately before coming to Loyola in 2000, Phil managed government affairs for the Chicago Park District. He also served as the Director of Development for the Grant Park Music Festival for several years, responsible for the group’s fundraising, membership, and corporate sponsorship activities.

Today, Phil serves on the Board of the Civic Federation of Chicago, and he recently stepped down as President of the Board of the Cathedral Counseling Center, a non-profit providing a wide variety of mental health services. He also is very active with the City Club of Chicago and other civic organizations in Chicago.
