About
Dr. A. Karl Larsen is an instructor in the Forensic Science Program. He has over 45 years of experience in forensic drug chemistry and toxicology. Dr. Larsen is the past Director of Graduate Studies in Forensic Sciences, the Laboratory Director of UIC Forensic Toxicology Laboratory, and a Clinical Professor of Forensic Science at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) as well as the Laboratory Director of the Analytical Forensic Toxicology Laboratory. Prior to joining UIC, he was at the Illinois State Police in a variety of roles, from Forensic Scientist specializing in controlled substances to Laboratory Director of the Westchester Forensic Science Laboratory, to liaison for complex cases in toxicology and an instructor for marijuana leaf identification and courtroom demeanor.
Dr. Larsen received his BA in Chemistry from MacMurray College and his PhD in Pharmacodynamics from UIC. Dr. Larsen has over a dozen publications and given numerous presentations related to drug analysis and pharmacodynamics in forensic science.

Dr. Larsen holds membership in the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS), the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), the Association of Racing Chemists, and serves on the FEPAC Board of Commissioners.
