Message from the Dean
Welcome to the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing
Nursing isn’t just a profession—it's a calling.
At the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, we prepare nurse leaders who will advance the science of nursing while transforming the lives of patients and communities. Our rigorous curriculum, grounded in Jesuit values that emphasize care for patients’ physical, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing, provides a distinctive education that produces compassionate nurses committed to health equity.
For nearly 90 years, Loyola Nursing has been a leader in nursing education. Our commitment to academic achievement is evident across the breadth of our degree programs, including our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which consistently ranks in the top 5 percent of undergraduate nursing programs in the country. Our nationally ranked graduate programs prepare clinicians, nurse scientists, and administrators to lead through evidence-based practice and research.
Social justice and the pursuit of health equity are foundational to our mission. Programs like our CARE (Collaboration, Access, Resources, and Equity) Pathway to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing exemplify our commitment to inclusive excellence, antiracism, and increasing the diversity of the nursing workforce. We cannot be excellent without being truly inclusive.
As health care in this country grows increasingly complex, Loyola Nursing is on the forefront of advanced practice nursing education. Our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program readies nurse leaders for the highest level of practice, enabling them to provide exceptional care at both the individual patient and systems levels. Our rapidly growing research program continues to draw national talent and increasing National Institutes of Health funding, laying a solid foundation for those pursuing their PhD in Nursing.
At Loyola Nursing, we foster relationships to transform lives – the lives of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni and the lives of the patients and communities we serve. I invite you to learn more about our faculty, research, and degree and certificate programs on our website and consider becoming a Loyola Nurse.
With gratitude,
Lorna Finnegan, PhD, RN, FNP, FAAN
