EMPIRE
The purpose of the EMPIRE Living-Learning Community is to provide a space for male identifying students in their first year at Loyola to develop a sense of belonging and explore their unique leadership identities as it contributes to their greater Loyola student experience. Learning community members will build an initial community at Loyola with other male identifying students and will delve deeper into the social inequities that do not allow them to experience Loyola without also considering their identities.
At the end of one year in the EMPIRE Living-Learning Community, students will be able to:
- Question the intersections of their Black and male identities with other identities they may hold through participation in Brother’s for Excellence and in-hall facilitated workshops.
- Give one or more examples of actions taken to work effectively with others to accomplish a shared goal.
- Identify five characteristics of a positive leader with shared identities and how it influences their personal leadership journey.
- Explain something they learned as a result of engaging in a conversation with someone who held a perspective on an issue that differed from their own.
- Give an example of a way in which they have applied knowledge or skills that were (further) developed through participating in an LC class or program.
