Dean’s Message

A message from Interim Dean Jeanne Widen, PhD

Loyola University Chicago’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) exists to serve adult learners and we hold a single-minded goal: to create meaningful experiences that transform the lives of our students and help them capture new possibilities.

Building upon Loyola’s century-long mission of educational outreach and inclusiveness, SCPS focuses on flexibility, accessibility, and providing relevant skills for the contemporary world. We understand the needs of adult learners—the responsibilities they carry and the hurdles they face in returning to school—and we embrace our role as an encouraging ally.

We offer high-quality online graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs led by engaged faculty who are scholars or practitioners in their respective fields. With small class sizes and application-oriented courses, students gain knowledge and skills they can immediately apply to their lives. Foundational to student experience is the support we offer, from financial aid to academic services.

We recognize returning to school can be a daunting, overwhelming process and a significant investment of time and money. Understanding our learners and meeting their needs has led us to being considered one of the nation’s premier institutions for adult learners–a reality reflected in the national esteemed ranking and our retention and completion rates.

Grounded in our Jesuit values and an earnest desire to see our students capture new possibilities, we will continue extending what we do well. We will grow and advance programs, including creating new pathways to graduate work, and we will ensure accessibility and flexibility in exciting new ways through innovation, partnerships, and an unrelenting focus on our students.

SCPS is a place of transformation, empowerment, and growth. We look forward to playing an encouraging role in your inspired story.
