Akia Segers

Akia overcame financial challenges by depending solely on scholarships after maxing out her loans. Balancing full-time work and academics demanded dedication and strong Loyola support.

Loyola's "cura personalis" philosophy transformed Akia, making her a better person. She chose Paralegal Studies to explore law and help her community. She plans to attend Loyola's law school for a J.D. in Public Interest and Social Justice.

Akia believes her hard work sets an example for her daughter, demonstrating the rewards of determination.

"I think that she was able to see that hard work pays off. You can put your mind to something and really achieve it."

Akia's Loyola experience was significantly shaped by her professors and supportive staff.

"I was given the tools and resources to be a successful student. My advisors, teachers, and peers were always available to assist in any way they could."  

Her capstone class, her favorite, allowed her to make a real-world impact through community work, focusing on mentorship and community support.

To those balancing full-time work and education, Akia advises excellent time management, relying on tools like planners to stay organized and meet deadlines.
