Michelle Feirn
Exceeding Expectations
Michelle's journey at SCPS began when she was invited through the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Initially aiming for a degree in Sociology, she switched to Applied Psychology after consulting with an advisor. Upon graduation, she became an ambassador to assist new students and stay involved in Loyola.
Her experience at SCPS significantly impacted her as both a student and professional. As a student, it pushed her to exceed her own expectations and excel even further. Professionally, it paved the way for her to pursue a master's in counseling, with a goal of becoming a licensed therapist in two years.
"My academic experience stretched my potential far past my expectations. As a student who strives to excel normally, I found I was pushing myself even harder than before to be my best."
The highlights of her SCPS experience were the availability and support of her instructors and counselor, which exceeded her previous experiences and even her current university. After graduating in August 2023, Michelle began to pursue her Master's in Counseling Psychology at a university in her hometown, with the aim of working with veterans and their families in the future.
For prospective students considering returning to school as adults, Michelle wants them to know that pursuing education knows no age restrictions. She emphasizes the importance of being open to exploring different major and career options and seeking counsel if unhappy with the chosen path. She encourages a lifelong learning mentality and making the most out of one's mind and life.
"Don't live your life waiting to retire, keep learning like you'll live forever and get as much as you can out of your mind and your life."
