Robin May-McMorris
“Loyola SCPS made it possible for me to work hard and see the fruits of my labor”
Robin May-McMorris a 2015 graduate of Loyola School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS), shares her tremendous journey through Loyola SCPS and her experiences of being an adult student.
A Chicago native, Robin attempted to return to school several times after attending another university as a Chemistry pre-med major. But with a full-time job, young daughter, a mother and a grandmother to care for, Robin never found the right program to fit her busy schedule.
Then a few years ago, Robin attended an SCPS Open House session. She says “There was an immediate connection; it just felt right! The staff and students were both welcoming and informative. The accelerated format with eight-week evening class sessions were a perfect fit for my chaotic schedule.”
Many years after last attending college, Robin decided it was now or never! She enrolled in The SCPS BA in Management degree, with a certification in Organizational Development and Leadership, and never looked back!
The flexible and real-world programs at SCPS are designed for adult students, to pursue a cutting-edge education at their own pace. Says Robin “I’m glad to have chosen Loyola SCPS because the program continues to evolve based on the needs of the industry. The added flexibility of taking classes in person, online and credits for your prior learning experience mitigates excuses for most anyone who wants to stop dreaming about it and do it! The added opportunity to learn from top industry professionals as well as peers will make sure you never lack inspiration!”
With the loving support and backing of her husband, who frequently took the role of both the mother and father to their daughter; and Loyola’s dedicated faculty and staff, Robin’s journey was made easier with guidance and encouragement during stressful times.
“Loyola professors encouraged and inspired me beyond belief. They enabled me to successfully ease back into the higher education environment after twenty-five years, and transition into the next phase of my life.”
Robin currently works for Health Care Services Corporation as a Process Improvement Manager III. She says her time at Loyola has helped her add value to her current role. “The organizational development and leadership courses reinforced the skills I’ve gained from experience and improved my work performance; I recently earned a promotion at work and didn’t even see it coming.”
With her hard work, perseverance and Loyola’s flexible and transformative teaching, Robin graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2015. And with her passionate spirit, never-give-up attitude and a million-dollar smile, she is ready to go out and set the world on fire!
