About
Benjamin Bateman joined the School of Communication in the Spring of 2019. He received his BS in Secondary Education: Social Studies from Indiana University and his MA in Media and Cinema Studies from DePaul University. Bateman’s work primarily focuses on Hollywood cinema during WWII and documentary studies/production. He is currently working on Winning the War at 24-frames a Second, a historical analysis of American Propaganda films during World War II. Bateman has also been shooting a documentary since 2007, Cameron McGill: Dark Times, which follows a singer-songwriter from Chicago. Although the film is still in production, he has developed scholarship, Cameron McGill Dark Times: The Pursuit of Objectivity in a Subjective Medium, that focuses on the issues of objectivity, truth, and reality in documentary filmmaking. Bateman has also taught in the Chicago Public Schools since 2007, where he teaches among other subjects Dual Credit - Introduction to Cinema.
