Thank you for your interest in the Philosophy Department at Loyola University Chicago!

Our department houses one of the largest philosophy faculties in the United States, representing a distinctively pluralistic approach to philosophy. In line with the values of our Jesuit institution, our focus is on the critical inquiry of diverse philosophical topics in a humble, respectful and diverse climate. We offer a particularly broad selection of in-depth courses at the undergraduate and graduate level that reflect our wide range of specializations and commitment to multiplicity.

Our Community

History of Philosophy Roundtable Fall 2024 Meetings

On September 27, Lucas Angioni (UNICAMP) will give a talk entitled "Full responsiveness to the targeted explanandum (or what unifies Aristotle's Posterior Analytics)". This talk will take place from 3:30pm-5:30pm on the Fourth Floor of the Information Commons. A reception will follow in the Crown Center Third Floor lobby.

On November 8, Marissa Venturi (LUC) will give a talk entitled "Quantification, Due Measure, and The Craftsmanly: Teasing out the Unity of the Four Kinds in Plato's Philebus". This talk will take place from 2:45pm-4:00pm in Crown 530 (tentative).

PRG Event: Husserl Workshop

The Loyola Phenomenology Research Group is hosting a workshop to discuss recent work on Edmund Husserl. The workshop event will take place Friday, September 13th, on the 4th floor of the Information Commons between 9:55am and 3:30pm.

Philosophy Undergraduate Reception

Please join us on Wednesday, September 4 from 4:15pm to 5:45pm for the Philosophy Undergraduate Reception. The reception will be held in the Crown Center Second Floor Lobby and all are welcome. We hope to see you there!
