2024 Christmas Reception
Dear Faculty, Staff, and Retirees,
In the spirit of the season, we are delighted to invite you to our annual Loyola University Christmas Reception. This gathering offers us a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate our shared accomplishments, and reflect on the year’s journey.
Event Details
- Date: Tuesday, December 17, 2024
- Time: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
- Location: Damen Student Center at the Lake Shore Campus
Come out and enjoy a great time with friends and former colleagues over great food, beverages, the sounds of Christmas, an exciting raffle, a competitive Bow-n-Bowl match, an exciting Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, and of course Bingo! Plus, interactive magic, juggling, and stilt-walking entertainment will be made available.
To help us plan accordingly, you are invited to RSVP for the event, including reserving free round-trip shuttle service, indicating interest in participating in festive inspired games and/or signing up to volunteer by November 22, 2024.
Campus Parking & Inter-Campus Transportation
In partnership with Campus Transportation, complimentary parking will be available at the Main Parking Structure as well as Fordham Garage. Alternatively, if you need a ride to the Lake Shore Campus from the Water Tower or Health Sciences campuses, free round-trip shuttle service will be available.

Free shuttle service will be provided to and from the Lake Shore Campus:- Water Tower Campus
Shuttle service will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the Corboy Law Center and depart at 4:15 p.m. from the Lake Shore Campus to return to the Water Tower Campus. - Health Sciences Campus
Shuttle service will leave at 12:30 p.m. from Fifth Avenue (outside of the School of Nursing building) and depart at 4:15 p.m. from the Lake Shore Campus to return to the Health Sciences Campus.

Uber Assistance
Volunteers will be available to assist you in coordinating a safe ride home if needed.

The best Ugly Christmas Sweater participants will win memorable prizes. Check your attire and consider signing up to enter a festive and fun competition. - Holiday Spirit Contest
University Staff Council’s annual Holiday Spirit Contest is back by popular demand. The occasion provides colleagues with space to encourage cheer and illustrate your ingenuity by selecting a door/wall within your unit or space to decorate with festive, fun, and spirit-filled creativity. You pick the design, and supplies are up to you - think Loyola, think festive, have fun! For more information and to sign up, visit the Holiday Spirit Contest webpage. Plus, as part of our collective commitment to advance our mission of cura personalis by helping our peers experiencing a financial emergency through no-fault of their own, there will be an opportunity to donate to the Loyola Employee Emergency Fund (LEEF).

Bow-n-Bowl Contest
Below is information about the Bow-n-Bowl Contest"
- Start time: 3:30PM CST
- Location: Alcove (East of the Damen Student Center Front Desk)
- 5 people will be randomly selected from the crowd to each play a 60-second game.
- During each game, the Contestant will be blindfolded and provided with a spoon (or a different device type) to try to select one of the bows that is designated as the winning color (by the Contest Coordinator) to win a Gift Card prize.
- Note: There will be a bowl full of bows of different colors that also contains one specific color as the winning color (chosen by the Contest Coordinator) to select for the Gift Card prize during each game.
Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest
Below is information about the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest.
- The contest begins at 3:00PM CST.
- Contestants will line-up in the area across from the Alcove (in front of the Halas Sports Center).
- First and Runner-Up prizes will be granted to contestants wearing the best and second-best Ugly Christmas Sweater attire. The clothing can reflect the contestant’s interpretation of the spirit of the holiday – think decorative and festive work appropriate inspirations of the spirit of the season and the University. This may include a fashion statement that incorporates Ignatian principles, pedagogy, and/or heritage.

- Note: If you registered to participate in the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest when RSVPing for the Christmas Reception, you do not need to register again.
Volunteering
In preparation for the upcoming Christmas Reception, there is an opportunity that will allow you to donate some of your time while still celebrating the festivities with fellow Loyolans. Faculty, Staff, and Retirees are encouraged to sign-up to assist with volunteer efforts at the Welcome Tables located at the North and South entrances of the Damen Student Center, provide support during the Bingo games, assist with Shuttle Service and, at the end of the event, help gather materials so Facilities can return the items to Human Resources.
Human Resources is looking for assistance with staffing coverage for a variety of roles on December 17:
