About

Professor Showkat is an assistant professor of entrepreneurship at the Quinlan School of Business, where he studies how to alleviate the suffering of extremely marginalized entrepreneurs. An award-winning scholar and educator, Professor Showkat advocates for experiential learning and draws on his own management and entrepreneurship experiences in his teaching. With a decade of experience in top management positions and as an entrepreneur before entering academia, he has received multiple awards, including the Student Champion Award, and won the Best Dissertation Proposal Award for his “Dare to Care” proposal. He served as an Ambassador for the entrepreneurship division in the Academy of Management and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for top entrepreneurship journals.

Dr. Showkat’s research primarily explores settings of extreme poverty and strategies to alleviate suffering in those populations. He focuses on psychological mechanisms to increase the well-being of entrepreneurs. His work in Rohingya refugee camps has been accepted at top management and entrepreneurship conferences, such as the Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting and the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference (BCERC).

In the last 25 years, Sadek was the first entrepreneurship doctoral candidate at the University of Louisville, where he received his Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship, to be featured in the college magazine for his impactful research. In the Quinlan School of Business, Dr. Showkat teaches Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Managing People and Organizations. He brings his decade-long experience into the classroom. Born and raised in Bangladesh, Sadek’s industry experience spans several years working in Bangladesh, India, and China.
